Citrine is a yellow, transparent form of quartz. It can be found in Brazil, USA, Britain Russia and France but is actually rarer than a lot of other crystals. It has a Mohs hardness factor of 7. These beautiful yellow crystals have been collected and used since ancient times, including by the Egyptians who believed Citrine got its colour from Ra, the God of the sun. Ancient Greeks also valued Citrine as did the Romans, who believed Citrine could protect against evil thoughts. Other cultures called Citrine the merchants stone or money stone and carried it to promote prosperity. Maybe this is why Citrine was a favourite stone of Queen Victoria who used it in decorating her and Prince Alberts summer residence.
